I just saw a piece on the local pbs station here in phoenix area and it was rather cockeyed logic that it contained.  It went as follows:  Alot of the “illegal guns” in Mexico come from the states that border Mexico. The person being interviewed was from the BATF. Of course the whole line of the discussion was anti gun.

Lets use a little logic here.  Hoards of Mexicans are coming to the USA because Mexico is run like a company town.  If we were talking about free speech of  the first amendment would we tolerate the BATF cooperating with Mexico to supress free speech rights?

Gun rights are essential features of free societies. If Mexico is ever to grow past its authoritarian oligarchic model these rights are going to have to be respected.

The mantra of the BATF guy and the Mexican government is “drug lords with guns” etc.  However common sense suggests that drugs are not their issue.  Their issue is maintaining the oligarchies authority.

Thus our government has no business cooperating on this issue.  Mexico lives right next door to the USA.  They are overdue for changes.  The internet and communications will end their backwards oligarchy sooner or later.  Mexico is a perfect example of the sayng “If guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns”.  Thus we owe a stiff upper lip and realistic attitude on this issue.

In Brazil I’m told people avoid trouble because they just know certain powerful people will do you in if you cause it.  Mexico is undoubtably the same. Latin countries are given to this submissive behavior. Its no way to live.  Guns allow the same fear and respect to be brought to the ruling classes.  This is truly part of how democracy is born.

My apologies for disabusing of your fantasies of a peaceful friendly world.  Its only peaceful and frendly where the power hungry are put off their balance.
