Filibuster - Immigration Reform and Chess - Sometimes the Best You Can Do is Stalemate
Friday, May 18th, 2007In chess if you get to a point where you can not take the other players king but rather can only repeatedly threaten it the condition is called stalemate. Many times when playing that as things go bad the losing player realizes that he is not going to win and secretly will start setting up a condition where stalemate will occur.
Currently immigration reform is being ramroded up one of the American peoples orifice’s. I’m not sure which one. Since the beginning of this debate I have been an advocate of NO ACTION. Here are my reasons:
1- There is no practical way of deporting all the illegals. Simple. You want to give up a bunch of your freedom and become even more socialist ? Not me. Thus in the interest of libertarian living you have to choose leaving things alone.
2- DO NOT legalize the illegals. Why? Because it is a way of making the illegals pay a penalty for being here illegally. It essentially docks their pay. If they can tough it out long enough and their children are born here then their debt is paid and their children will be citizens.
The fact is with the world growing as it is the USA will need a larger population to remain competitive. We can’t afford to have alot of voting citizens that do not really understand democracy. Native Mexicans demonstrably do NOT understand democracy. Otherwise Mexico would not be in the shape its in. I am betting their children being raised in the USA will have the visceral understanding.
Thus the best solution with regards immigration reform is to kill the comprimise legislation that is currently being talked about in congress. Kill it and go with stalemate. The democrat’s reason for wanting it is they think they will get a big wad of more votes.
What about the republican’s reasons for supporting this? Hard to understand. Maybe its the tired old business wants cheap labor saw. I think this is more what it sounds like in a republican senators brain: Politicians don’t care who they lord over. However if you are in the country illegally and not paying income tax you are not fully being lorded over! Now this is to be avoided at all costs. We MUST lord over these Mexicans come hell or high water. Let’s make ‘em legal and I’ll be the boss! ………………….Notice there was not a single thought about all us normal citizenry that bear the consequences of this. Democrats and Republicans alike don’t seem to do much without thought of the vote. Not a single politician in congress as I can see it gives a rats ass about anyone but themselves. Any thinking that they do seems criminally naive to me.
