The Alaska pipeline was started in 1973. However there was much luddite “environmental” opposition and thus it had several years of delay. It all got a very strong push for the first oil shock of the 70’s. All forms of energy are going up in cost. People are trying to ditch their gas guzzlers left and right. Well guess what? It appears like another feature of current events is mirroring the 60’s and 70’s. Here’s the list:
1- Iraq war - while not as deadly for our troops it is costing a bit - similar to costs of Vietnam
2- Environmental resistance to drilling for oil
3- Oil prices shoot up
4- all commodities in general shoot up
5- inflation is pushing upwards
6- our President is letting congress spend like drunken sailors.
The only good thing about the 70’s where that they ended when we got Ronald Reagan. This athiest can only pray we find another.
What will happen next ?
–The environmentalists are about to get crushed. There is no way Americans will accept a lower standard of living. The nonsense is about to come to an end. We need to start drilling fast and furious. While I know there are other types of energy being worked on there is no way they are going to come in fast enough to fill the gap. Drilling is a must!
–Global warming as a cause is done. Its fully cooked.
I personally hope that a distributed energy source like solar electric comes in soon. Its not about the farce of MMGW for me. The trouble with oil and other centralized energy sources is that they are subject to intense taxation the governments of the world. Brazil while self sufficient in petroleum has gas that costs 2X what it costs in the USA and we IMPORT more than half of ours! The reason I want to see solar come in is for the sake of democracy.
My neighbor here in Brazil is a lady from Spain. She says its the same in Spain. Governments have a python like grasp on personal liberties and they won’t stop until they squeeze every bit of breath out of it.
