If you have ever done any amount of selling on ebay you know they can be a pain.
If you have ever sold anything on Craigslist you know how good it is as a tool. It does not realize the full market value of many things but it doesn’t cost much ( free for the most part ).
In the dealings with Craigslist ebay is crying foul because they are not going to get their way. They functionally hate Craigslist because ebay needs to be a monopoly to not fear getting up every morning. Their costs are simply too much.
For a person actively doing business through ebay they effectively skim 10’s of percent off of the profit. Imagine you are buying something for 80$ and selling for 100$. Ebay tends to take about 5% minimum with Paypal included. That means they take 5$ on your 100$ sale. But that is 25% of your profit !!
Ebay is a dead man walking and that is why they are backing up their position with Kijiji or however you spell that site. They need a model for the inevitable time when their revenue model falls flat on its stony nose!
Craig Newmark is a commy but I still like him. In this case the commy is acting out like a capitalist. He owns the majority of the company. Tough luck ebay. I’m sure you’ve dicked more than the price you paid for your CL stock out of us poor users. You know…those times you cancel auctions because of this or that rule ….like if a person posts a competing payment scheme or you only want to accept wire transfers and DON’T refund listing costs or the time involved in the listing! ( when they do this the listing is fully erased…..you have to start from scratch.)
