Professor of African American studies? What the heck do you do with a degree in African American studies? It seems to me the reason why the United States has the economic problems that it does is that too many people are studying the equivalent of African American studies. Whether it be basket weaving or going to college on a sports scholarship you are not likely to get out of school and be a big producer of money velocity.
Indeed I feel this is a bad omen for Mr Obama’s term as presidency. Let us compare this with who would speak if I was being inaugurated. I can think of many people much more interesting than someone who studied how to teach others to become wards of the state. How about Leon Lederman Nobel laureate for physics ? Any engineer of any type would be a welcome message to the people. My message would be get studying because if you do not create gross national product then you are nothing. Because it is true.
The tide of history is not pushed by the diversionary figures of entertainment or agitprop. The tides of history are driven by technical people and by great economic figures of industry. If you are not one of these you are a follower no matter how you try to be otherwise.

Straight from Matt Mullenweg’s mouth:
We basically make money from our services 4 ways:
1. WP.com upgrades (space, domains, etc) – http://wordpress.com/products/
2. Ads on WP.com, which we show very rarely
3. VIP customers – http://wordpress.com/vip-hosting/
4. Akismet licenses – http://akismet.com/commercial/

People are suggesting that by not changing conservatives will fail. As per the book “The 48 Laws of Power” the only way you fail is by not being successful in the effort to feed your armies. In this case voters = armies. We need to architect a type of capitalism that also educates. Thus as the voter learns he prospers. As he prospers others see. As others see it they are drawn in. All movements that grow do this:
- ancient armies ran on rape, pillage and plunder
- In the case of NAZI Germany the business model was to dehumanize Jews and steal even the gold fillings in their mouths to pay the miscreants.
- The democrats business model is obvious. Plunder where advantageous. Cigarettes were only the devil when in the 1980’s they started contributing to republicans only. They were then exploitable.
If you want conservatism to prosper you need a business model. Fortunately we live in an era of fast flowing information. Thus I suggest there is a positive business model that will not include the larceny of the old ways. Its going to require a grass roots internet organization because its almost inherent that a top down model results in distortion of the libertarian capitalist model. I can feel this is possible. We are going into an era of technology which will enable many things including engineering of ourselves. Intellectual property rights along with world wide collaboration should enable this.
The good guys who play honestly need a gang also.

Is it only me or do you get offended by websites, television programs and magazines that have too many advertisements?
I understand there is a business model at work. And to that end well I am forgiving. But beyond a point there are limits. You do realize they are carving slivers of your life, your time and reselling it to advertisers right?
Its an arbitrage on your time. I guess the balance is set by the dynamic equilibrium of the market place.
