How to Make it Look Like An Email Came From Any Address

 

Spammers and Phishers use the fact you can send an email and make it look like it came from any email address.

You can do this too if you if you want. However I like using it for humorous purposes such as when someone flames you for some nurdy geeky reason by sending you a nasty-gram email.   You can email them out of the blue from TERMS-OF-SERVICE.   Another application is the BAT LOW page to cell phone prank.   If you send a BAT LOW page to a friend and it comes from your email address then its not so effective. Make the return email be ATT SUPPORT and you start making them wonder.

Remember!!! …if you do this trick make sure you are doing something benign. You will be require to use your ISP outgoing mail server.  If you try something illegal you can very easily be traced and caught.

The easiest way to do this prank is by using Outlook Express email tool.

Steps:

1- Set up a JokeIdentity

 

2- Switch identities

 

3- click down the wizard – we will use the standard setup

4- Click on Tools > Accounts > Click on the Mail Tab > Click on the ADD button > Click on the MAIL option

     You will then be prompted to enter the DISPLAY NAME at this point. 

The display name can be anything. Alot people use it as Joe Blow.  A fun thing to do is to make it whatever email address you want the person to THINK the email is from.  This address will be displayed as the visual cue.  However it is not coupled to the return address.

Click on NEXT button

5- You are now asked to enter the return email address where people can send email to you.  An example of a fun address to use is  YourFriendsEmailAddress@PracticalJoke.com      

What happens when you do this is that when your friend responds to any emails he will be sending and email to himself !!!

For example send your friend a fake bill from aol saying thanks for the order and his credit card will be bill $9.99.  Make sure to put a note saying if he was not responsible for the order he can respond to the email and say PLEASE CANCEL ORDER.

6- You will now be prompted to enter the email server of your ISP.

7- You can now forward through all the forms and click FINISH button.

You are now ready to send a joke email to your friend.  Be creative and be nice.  Do not do anything mean.  Only things you can BOTH laugh about after you explain what you did !   This is all nearly common knowledge. Anyone who wants to do illegal things already knows about it. Thus its my full expectations anyone reading this will only be using it to do amusing / entertaining things with their friends.

Now let’s put it all together so you can see how it should work.   Find the email address of 2 of your friends.  You are going to send the following 2 emails

1: From PERSON-A  to PERSON-B :  Make it all look like it came from person A, both display and return address.  In the body of the email write “I AM THE MAN FROM NANTUCKET!!!!”.    Of course person B will be wondering what the heck is he telling me this for???  …. but I am glad it is an ear and not the other thing cause I sure do not want to see it!!!

2: From PERSON-B to PERSON-A :  Make display and return address appear to be from person B.  Ask “DID YOU BORROW MY CALCULATOR???”

Then when they meet say at work at intel they will ask each other “what was up with that email you sent me???” and know that they have had a practical joke played on them.
