Its in the news that the US Government is in the process of being an defacto enforcer for the Mafia.  The US Government is in the process of trying to enforce laws against online gambling.  The mob bosses must not be getting their cut of the action or the Democrats theirs, but I repeat myself.   The excerpt below summarizes the enforcement activities.

Senior bankers and leading politicians have attacked demands from the American Department of Justice for British bankers to hand over details of their dealings with online gambling companies outlawed in the US. After calls on the British Government to spell out the limits of the US authorities’ reach, the Treasury said last night that it was monitoring the situation.

Subpoenas have been issued by the Southern District Court of New York to at least 16 banks, including HSBC, Dresdner Kleinwort, Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank. The official demands for e-mails, telephone records and other documents form part of a controversial push by the Department of Justice (DoJ) to build cases against individuals and companies who profited from online gaming in the US.

It would be hilarious were it not such a source of so much indirect destruction of liberty.  Gambling among other things is an activity that is not something we should waste time actively fighting against.   Your religion maybe against it. So what?  The Universe cares nothing of your emotions or desires.  I am talking about the pure logic of the universe here.  Lets observe what that logic dictates and make appropriate decisions.

1) forget about victimless crimes.  The fact is in the globalized economy you can outlaw an activity in your own country but you can not outlaw it in another.  If Americans want to gamble online we have to should allow that just as if they traveled to the U.K. to do it.

2) Since we are thinking about acting in the liberatarian way here possibly we should consider doing it for internal policy also.  To Wit:

–a) no drug control  — phase this in slowly so the obsessive binge’rs can weed themselves out of the gene pool slowly and not take too many not involved in their activities with them!

–b) no sex control — If a woman wants to rent her vagina let her.  She’s the one that pays with instant karma becoming a whore.  In the long run she pays.

–c) no gun control — we can’t keep cocaine out of the country.  If guns are outlawed only the smuggler type outlaws will have guns.

–d) no financial control — Accept the concept of the consentual society.  You do not accept when a man forces himself on a woman, why do you allow your government to enlarge your rectum?   Make government programs contributary.  If you WANT to see something done contribute money.

All these are ideals.   The closer we are to them the more likely the USA will actually be a free nation of liberty and of a people with mutual respect for one another.  To the extent we deviate is the extent to which the rules are perverted for gains in power.

While it may sound unlikely these principles will be adopted soon there are some forces at work that seem to push this direction.  The internet seems to be inherently libertarian.  Diverse ideas can not be contained or policed effectively even by a group as authoritarian as the Chinese government.  Think about China.  Even as early as the 70’s they were forced to loosen up a bit due to electronic communications in the form of TV.  Consider this thought experiment:  The Chinese  try to repeat the cultural revolution today with the internet in existance.  How long does it last?  How many people with leave China with their much higher basal knowledge of the external world ?  I think this illustrates long term forces are at work that favor the libertarian view of things.  While the world will not be perfect, it will allow those who are a loving force in our society to fully express their positive natures.  The sociopaths will still do their thing.  Hopefully the equations balance out in favor of the good people.  I would suggest they do.  Mao, Hitler, Stalin all depend on hijacking the common energies of society like a sail catches the wind.  They have depended on us not to have full knowledge of what is going on.  Without this energy aggregation they can only accomplish what they can physically do with their own hand.  That puts them in the class of Jeffry Dalmer.  Lethal but limited in the damage they can inflict.

The libertarian advantage is your point of view is aligned with the physical system under consideration.  Using the correct coordinate system always makes a problem easier.
