Talk Radio-Too Many Commercials-Will it Put Itself out of Business?

Every time I tune in to Rush Limbaugh on KFYI in Phoenix Az the highest probability is that there will be a commercial playing.  Here is my algorithm when tuning in:

1- flip on radio

2- if I hear Rush Limbaugh talking I listen till the next commercial then turn off the radio

3- if I hear a commercial I turn the radio off.  Its a crap shoot as to whether I turn it back on again.

If they want to keep listeners they are going to have to reduce the number of commercials.  At some point I will cease the above algorithmic behavior if the commercials go to some reasonable level and just leave the radio on.  If KFYI does not adjust this I will maintain my listenership at the almost dead level.

Its either this or more creative embedded commercials that are not so grating on the nerves.  I do not know which will be more economically viable because the commercials quality will have to improve so much that it will cost a significant amount of money.

I concur. Commercials have ruined talk radio. I also turn down the radio every time one comes on. Can you imagine what folks would have done in the old days with all that obnoxious noise blaring out every 5 minutes. You try to get into a relaxed state and zero in on a topic then here comes another one. I

the problem is you listen to rush limbaugh, how do you think he makes the millions a year he makes? its from advertising, the more crap he can cram in between segments the more money he can make…………………you get it?

Not quite: You see in spite of the fact he is an enormous talent and the second coming of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson at the same time I rarely listen to more than 5 minutes per day. The main reason? Too many commercials to mute using my computers sound control. So while you think he does better using 100 commercials per day the problem is 5 mins / 180 mins per full show * 100 = ~3. Therefore he only imparts 3 commercials to me per day if lucky. That my dear sir is the definition of over the hump diminishing returns.
