GAI: brave browser keeps updating when it wants interrupting my browing sessions ubuntu linux

Method 2: Pause Snap Auto-Updates (For Snap installs):  Ubuntu often installs and updates Brave via the Snap Store. You can hold all snap updates to stop Brave from refreshing in the background.

Open your Terminal.   Run this command to pause all snap refreshes temporarily:

    snap refresh –hold

To remove the hold at a later date, you can run:

    snap refresh –unhold

GAI: ubuntu linux if I use snap refresh –hold can I still manually update using software manager?

Yes. The snap refresh –hold command only prevents automatic background updates. You can still manually trigger updates at any time.

How Manual Updates Work

  •     In the Terminal: You can manually update a specific app or all held apps by running sudo snap refresh <app-name> or sudo snap refresh.
  • Via Software Manager: You can still use the Ubuntu App Center (or the older Ubuntu Software GUI). Clicking the "Update" button or checking for updates in the interface overrides the hold and fetches the latest version.

A Helpful Tip for GUI Updates
If you are using the graphical Snap Store (App Center) and an update fails to apply, the application might be running in the background. You can fully close the background process to allow the update to proceed by running

    killall snap-store

in your terminal, then clicking update again in the GUI.
