Zulip Versus Slack Conversation Threading – Why Slack is better

Published by Fudgy McFarlen on

Slack Example

  • If you want to talk about something science related you click on the "science" category and you tack on your entry to the end of the left hand column which is the stream of topics passing through the Category = "science".   Now people replying clicks into your entry and brings up the right hand column and replies in the right hand column  and anyone wanting to review the conversation does the same and can see exclusively commentary from that conversation exclusively.

Zulip Server Example

  • With Zulip conversation threads are sorted by you giving your particular new entry in the category a sub-category name.  See image below – the subcategories proliferate and of course each is going to be generally speaking broad enough that it too would need sub categories and so on and so on.  This tends towards being unmaneagable.
  • Zulip might work better in a company development team environment where conversations are more tightly focused topics.   But I would guess even then that probably is not true.
