Back when main mode of transportation was horses it was a well known to watch how a man treated his horse. I had an ancestor who was a tinner and slater who had a horse named Joe. When he was up on a roof and Joe moved the cart forward Great GrandFather called down "Joe, Back up!"…….and Joe slowly backed the cart he was hitched to up.
