Linux Using GParted to Edit and Repair Hard Drive Partitions

Published by Fudgy McFarlen on

Working on a 500GB disk learning more about disks.

Steps

  • Put HD SandroDisk_01 into USB docking station / turned on and connected USB – disk came up and mounted.
  • Noticed disk had a lot of small partitions – not sure what it was originally used for
  • Could not get the native Ubuntu linux Disk software to do anything
  • Installed and used Gparted to delete partitions / create new partition table / create partition / format partition
  • There were issues reading windows compatible disk which flagged needing:  dosfstools and / or mtools.   dosfstools is already installed.  mtools was not and after installing no further gripes about not being able to read

Still can not get it to mount after the wipe and recreation of partition though.
