Arms Merchant to the Amish
I just sold off an old ringer Maytag from the 1930s via Craigslist. After I was paid and the washing machine was loaded up I had to ask if he was cleaning / polishing them and selling them as antiques. Do you agree?
As is so often in the case the angle is not what you initially assume. He sells them to the Amish who then remove the motor and drive it with a gasoline engine. Of course I shake my head about gasoline engine versus electric motor as they are both highly technological. Deep in Amish country the profit margin goes up. Another interesting bit of information was that this style of Maytag was made up until the 1980s. The reason was they use much less water I am told by the arms merchant. Thus those with low water supply situations created a demand.
