All my life I have associated waking up with a sweat soaked bed with having slept very deeply.  I became curious to know what the physiological mechanism associated with this.  I was surprised to find out the only explainations online are ones that have negative health connotations.  They are listed in most articles as:

  • Menopause
  • Anxiety
  • Medications such as certain high blood pressure drugs, over-the-counter fever reducers and antipsychotics
  • Drug or alcohol abuse
  • Gastrointestinal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Diabetes
  • I am male so I’m going to rule out menopause.  The trouble with these explainations is that sweating at night is something that I have been doing since childhood.  Thus I have to rule out all the above purported causes.

As I said I associate sweating with very deep sleep.  I am deeply refreshed after a bedsoaking sweat session of sleep.  I assume various hormones are being called into play to repair the body. Maybe that is the cause.

TakeAway: I would not assume you have a health issue.  It appears this phenomena is not explained completely by the old saw explainations.  I would be curious if anyone reading this has a more plausible explanation.
