Imagine there are 4 types of players -1- You the Buyer -2- The producers…let’s call them the Saudis -3- The futures markets…let’s call them the Speculators -4- The Politicians -5- Stupidity … let’s call this character Spell AlGor-ithm Let me delineate the roles of each puppet in the great puppet show. Buyer: You need oil to fuel your flying mount. You send paper notes to Saudis and they send you oil. Incredible deal. You wonder why you get less oil for your notes now? You are a silly child. If you were planning on paying back your notes soon with valuable goods it would be one thing. But you are going to delay an interminable amount of time and introducing alot of disconnect between your note and the goods they represent. They already hold a large stash of your monopoly money notes in their lockbox. Saudis: These guys want to stay in business as long as possible. To that end they try to keep the price of oil controlled within a range that is not too low for their sake. They also try to maintain oil prices that are not too high because they will cut off the lifeblood of the economy and the price of oil will plummet. Of course the price would probably come back but they have politicians who overspend too and they need to keep their economies greased with our currency. In this respect its easy to see Politicians only serve a purpose when your opponent has them. They are a curse you can place on your enemies. Speculators: These are the little fairies that send you magic messages that the oil is getting scarce and you need to drill for more long before you have actual shortages. Politicians are currently trying to diddle the oil fairy. This is to make points with the voters. You would wish it was because they were smart enough to realize the people will know it was them that prevented drilling and caused this problem. I wish I had a little fairy advising on all topics in my life. They do you a favor when they raise the price because you know before you go hungry that you need to drill NOW. Politicians: First almost by stipulation the politicians are worthless. They neither give you any oil for your money nor do they buy it for you. All they do is try to screw things up by lieing to you, taking your money and all the while trying to diddle the oil fairy. You can imagine them as Big Dumb Green Ogre with large herpes covered genitals. This Big Dumb Green Ogre is constantly trying to get a date with you by trying to convince you to take a walk in the Sylvan Woods of Butt Stumping and telling you that you should think its a good idea because a consensus of scientists paid by government tells you so. These guys have their heads so far up their asses that they are literally a Human Mobius Strip ( HMS ). Spell AlGor-ithm: This character runs around putting stupidity spells on buyers trying to get believe ideas that only people lacking common sense would believe. These ideas delay they buyers logical response to the oil market conditions. The take away lesson of how to effectively play World of OilCraft is to listen to the oil fairies and drill anywhere there is oil in the USA. Don’t listen to the Big Dumb Green Ogres or Al Gore.
