There are two very important things to remember if you are trapped in close quarters with a nut job with a gun:

1- Most people are not that good with a gun – put a solid object in between you and them and do not stand still.  Dance according to the rythm of their shooting.  I am not joking. Remember the lawyer Jerry Curry?  He dodged bullets from behind a tree until his would be killer William Strier emptied a 6 shooter revolver from the other side of the tree.   The link below is to a slide show. I could not find the video.  The lesson here is do not go passive. If some one tries to kill you, do not go limp, make them work for it!  Curry lived but caught several bullets in nonlethal locations.

2- Have you ever noticed that when people take pictures of people that some folks can manage to have their eyes closed in every photo?  I know because I am one of these people.  I have super sensitive blue eyes and hate the lingering light birdie that results from overdriven retinas.  Thus from an early age I would smile for the camera and blink at just the right time to have my eyes closed when the flash goes off.  You can apply this to shooting also.   There will be small “tells” of when the shooter is going to fire.  Use them to cue you as to when to move out of the way.
