Carrie and the Retarded Rapist

I had a female roomate once. Carrie was an extremely fun and interesting person.  She told the story once of an attempted rape. She was working at a summer camp and was riding her bike to town. The camp was in rural Illinois. She was riding along and man grabbed her handle bars and pulled her into a corn field.  The guy was obviously not quite right.  He told her to take her clothes off.  She said "I am not going to fight you and I'm not going to tell anyone about this"   Well as it turns out the guy could not get an erection.  He needed the increased blood pressure do to the rush of a struggling woman to get hard.  He finally gave up.  She promptly went to the police and he was arrested.  Retardo Maltaban had done some sort of similar assault before were he had raped someone and had finally been released only to do it again.  If more women kept cool heads in tough situations the world would do better.  And the retard?   Rape used to be a capital crime.  These people should not reproduce.

Alibaba Transaction Review: Taisuo CH902 Temperature Controller

I contacted Susan Taisuo via Alibaba.  They refuse to send free samples. Here are the good points and bad points of ordering

1- Language barrier is there but seemed to mostly get past that

2- They only accept SWIFT wire transfers in payment – that means there is 35 US dollar charge on top of any order to pay for the transfer.  This is a real problem.  Technical things rarely go exactly right and with the language barrier its a real problem.  They suggest Western Union but that's almost as expensive. Also Western Union is not popular in the US.  Almost everyone has PayPal in the USA.  Suggested solution to this is GET A PAYPAL ACCOUNT!

3- Two temperature controller parts did arrive quickly.

4- I ordered a temperature controller to control a refractory oven.  They made a mistake in what they told me and placed my most important out,  the SSR ( solid state relay ) driver in OUTPUT #2 location. Unfortunately this results in the output be suitable sign for controlling a refrigeration unit.  When the PROCESS VALUE > SET VALUE the output is turned on.

When I contacted them with the problem they wanted me to pay shipping to get another set of samples with correct output sign.  Of course what I would be paying = SHIPPING + WIRE TRANSFER fee.  A bit annoying and does not indicate well for doing business with them.

I decided to do surgery on my and swap the output circuitry in the one they sent me.  Annoying but I am leaving the country soon for a while and do not want to take it along unless I need to.  Here are the results.

Corralejo Tequila Blanco 100% Agave – Most amazing

If you want a good tequila good for thinning your blood this is the stuff.  Small doses before workouts really help because your heart can pump more blood volume when your blood is thinner.  Also its rumored that drunks have great vascular systems because they solvate the fat in their systems!  I use it before running, weight lifting and climbing Squaw Peak.

Alot better taste than Jose Cuervo! In a very tall bottle.

You always get the least qualified when borrowing personnel and this applies to outsourcing too!

Thought experiment:

You work in engineering and you need to borrow some hand work assemblers from the production department of you company.  Describe who they loan you?

Results:

Generally speaking they will give you the screw up.

Reason:

They have a job to do and its called PRODUCTION ……not ENGINEERING!  You can be sure they will give you the person they would be most likely to lay off in the next round.

This principle applies to outsourcing also. The following is an exerpt for this arty: Outsourcing – too successful to waste on teams of less than 50 people

We hire from all over the world, but we don't get much talent from India. This week I went to a panel discussion about outsourcing and got a clear explanation why. The jobs that I work on are startup product builds with 4 to 10 team members. Those jobs are just too small to motivate an outsourcing company to assign good people. They save the best people for the biggest customers, which is exactly what I would do.

How bad is this problem? We qualify individual developers by hiring them for a week or two to work on real projects. When I pick individuals for this paid trial process, they succeed about 70% of the time. However, when I run trials with developers proposed by Indian companies, the trials succeed less than 15% of the the time. This happens even after I clearly explain my desire to find the best people, and my qualification process. If the trial does succeed, about 40% of the time the person who did the trial turns out not to be available. It's "just kidding, we want you to work with a more junior person." As a result, I quickly learned not to accept trials from Indian companies. The odds of finding someone good are too small to justify the effort.

It is the same effect.  The screw ups go to the lowest priority projects.

Is it Possible to Pick Fly Shit out of Black Pepper?

The essense of the problem is one of detection.  There is a whole area of signal processing called SIGNAL DETECTION THEORY.  Its an interesting course.  I took it from Doug Cochran as ASU.

So how do you pick fly shit out of black pepper? You can not do it.  The joke infers that the 2 things are identical.  Being indentical they can not be discerned. So stop worrying.  You won't taste the difference.

Presidents Faces on Money – Before Natural Dieties – Now it is Caesars Face

Before the currency of the USA had natural and animistic beings and deities on it.  Now they only have Caesar and his mausoleums.

The photos in the left column show coins before 1925-ish.  The photos in the right column show currency after 1925-ish.

What does this say about our Democracy? About us?  I think it says the people at the top of the power structure are more given to command / control society and they constantly push us in a direction that favors them having more power.

Only consolation is Benjamin Franklin the scientist is on the highest denomination.

I propose to change this back to animistic dieties.  No human with mainly political accomplishments should be on currency.  These political guys are about as useful as tits on boar hogs.  Yeah Obama that even includes you.  When will these guys figure out that their ambition is not our well being. Never going to happen.

Well 13 years later I found this passage in an article by a coin collector:

In the era of this nation’s birth, currency was often recognized as a character issue—specifically, the contemptible character of politicians. Shortly before the 1787 Constitutional Convention, George Washington warned that unsecured paper money would “ruin commerce, oppress the honest, and open the door to every species of fraud and injustice.”

But as time passed, Americans forgot the peril of letting politicians ravage their currency. In 1933, the US had the largest gold reserves of any nation in the world. But fear of devaluation spurred a panic, which President Franklin Roosevelt invoked to justify seizing people’s gold to give himself “freedom of action” to lower the dollar’s value. FDR denounced anyone who refused to turn in their gold as a “hoarder” who faced ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

FDR’s prohibition effectively banished from circulation the most glorious coin design in American history—the twenty-dollar Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle gold piece. I was captivated by early American coin designs, especially those featuring idealized female images emblazoned with the word liberty. I was unaware that George Washington refused to allow his own image on the nation’s coins because it would be too “monarchical.” Until 1909, there was an unwritten law that no portrait appear on any American coin in circulation. That changed with the hundredth anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln, whom the Republican Party found profitable to canonize on pennies.

By the mid-twentieth century, American coinage had degenerated into paeans to dead politicians. Portraits of Franklin Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and Dwight Eisenhower were slapped onto coins almost as soon as their pulses stopped. This reflected a sea change in values as Americans were encouraged to expect more from their leaders than from their own freedom.
