If you want to try a few ways to fight back and "starve the beast" or at least annoy it greatly here ya go:

1) Go to adnauseam.io and load their extension. It clicks ads so you don't have to and discards the results like a ad blocker. Fill their databases with garbage. Be the "GI" in "GIGO".

2) Try out a WiFi phone. Textplus and others will get you a real phone number and it works everywhere there is WiFi. To keep the number and kill ads costs about $12 a year. How's that for a low cost phone plan?

3) Best for last. Get your money out of banks and into credit unions.

To listen to MP3 tracks from a USB / SD storage device and the FM receiver is currently active you simply connect the USB device or insert the memory card. The stereo detects it and starts playback automatically

GUESS: The pin in the first photo was swedged into the metal arm. This pin was loose and held in only by the mushroomed end.  That allowed the pin to rotate and the plastic retainer eventually fell off due to the rotation of the pin.

Problem

Astra car has a manual transmission. In order to get it to go into 1s / 2nd / reverse you have to pull up the reverse interlock and then 1st gear is where reverse should be. Reverse is even further to the left.
